Barcode is the first level of coding, most widely used. The information is encoded into the card during the printing process.

What is a barcode?

Barcode consists of a set of printed and different patterned bars and spaces, numeric and sometimes alpha numeric data that are designed to be scanned and read by computer memory as identification for a labeled object.

The one-dimensional barcode (1D, linear) consists of simple row lines. 1D: A single-dimensional barcode stores less data than a two-dimensional barcode and is therefore more suitable for applications where only a few characters are stored. 1D barcodes store their data in horizontal width and the information is highly resistant. That is why they are more resistant to data decline. Multiple 1D read codes are used, with Code "3 of 9" as the simplest and probably the most reliable, and Code "2 of 5" as the most efficient use of space.

One-dimensional (1D) barcodes are usually printed along the card axis and are read by a reader by pulling the card through a read head that uses both visible and infrared sensors.

1D read codes are typically used to store a simple string of characters used as a password in access control or other holder identification systems.

Two-dimensional (2D) barcodes store more information than 1D barcodes. 2D barcodes contain a matrix of different square dot sizes and are usually read by beam sensor raster scan, which is located in a handheld reader with an external holder or a fixed reader (supemark style). Coating is not required.
